Welcome to Fish's Friends' Stroke Fundraiser

Help me and my team work to fight stroke!

On February 8th, 2009, I suffered a Stroke that robbed me of my speech and turned my life upside down.  Only 34 years old, a triathlete and in perfect health, I could never have imagined this to happen.  But it did, and I got through it with the right help fast, excellent medical care, rehabilitation and a lot of support from my loving friends and family.

I want everyone who suffers a stroke to be so lucky and to help prevent it from happening where possible.  This can be done by education, research and more resources to rehab patients.

In the year following my stroke, I learned to speak again in both English and my native Swedish and slowly started training again and regain my life as I want to live it.  I moved away from New York City to Boulder, CO to find peace for my healing brain.

Only a year and a half after the terrifying event, I completed my first Ironman in Lake Placid.  I became a Stroke Survivor AND and Ironman - what a thrill!  I was incredibly happy to prove to myself I could do it and also show that recovery from stroke is absolutely possible.  11 1/2 hours of smiling!

I still find ways push my body, my speech improves and my emotional healing continues.  This year I am competing in Ironman Zurich on July 10th, 2011 as well as looking for other outdoor adventures in the Rockies, my new backyard =)

As I continue on my road to full recovery and strive to accomplish my athletic goals, I started this fundraiser to help save lives and raise awareness about Stroke.
