Help us work to fight stroke!
As most of you know my father, Steve Plumley, had a stroke August 31st of 2009. The first few days were extremely difficult for everyone as doctors and nurses worked to stabilize Dad's condition and help us understand what had caused the stroke. All our friends and family were beyond amazing while Dad was in the hospital and rehab, the amount of visitors and cards was overwhelming (in a good way)!
The stroke occured in the right side of Dad's brain so the left side of his body has been affected. Over the past few weeks / months since the stroke Dad has made great progress both physically and mentally. Not only has Dad relearned how to walk but he has also made progress using his left arm. Although this process is probably very frustrating and disheartening at times, Dad has remained optimistic and has kept his sense of humor. We are hopeful that with enough support Dad will have a full recovery!
Although I did not initially know much about strokes, I am beginning to learn more than I ever hoped about them. The American Stroke Association has some great information available for people affected by stroke. It is my hope that we can help raise money for this organization so other families affected by stroke with have better resources available.
The American Stroke Association has made progress through awareness efforts to educate men and women everywhere about their risk for stroke, but still has far to go. The money raised helps them continue to make critical progress in the area of research and science and there are so many discoveries still yet to be made. Like all charities they need our help.
Many of you are probably aware that I am a triathlete and recently completed my first half marathon. I am running the Country Music Half Marathon (or perhaps Full Marathon) in honor of my Dad and to help drum up support for the American Stroke Association.
Please donate to the American Stroke Association in honor of my Dad!
