Brenden 2012

Brenden, age 7

“I am grateful to the doctors for fixing my heart. I can now run and play without getting tired.”

Hi, my name is Brenden and I am 7 years old. I was born with a “special heart” and I have gone to see a cardiologist my whole life.

Charlie 2012

Charlie, age 5

“I’m five years old and I have a scar on my chest because I’ve had three heart surgeries. I like riding my bike, playing Legos, and playing T-ball.”

Charlie has taken his responsibilities as his school’s Heart Ambassador very seriously and he has done a great job. He likes that he is raising money to help other children, and, most importantly, he has asked more about what makes him special.

Jared 2012

Jared, age 13

“Since I had my surgery, I feel better than I used to. I have more energy.”

Jump Rope & Hoops For Heart are a fun thing to do. You get to help someone by doing something fun. The American Heart Association is a good thing that I have learned about, and it’s a good thing for heart patients to let people know about what they go through.

ME Mary Elizabeth 2012

(M.E.) Mary Elizabeth, age 5

“I have to see a doctor for checkups. She listens to my heart and takes pictures of it. I pray for my heart to stay healthy!”

I had to go to two hospitals to get my heart fixed, and when they fixed my heart I was happy! My heart and the scar on my chest make me special.

Meyah 2012

Meyah, age 6

“When I walk into my pediatrician’s office they call me a miracle.”

My parents were told that I should have been very skinny and fatigued all the time but I was able to leave the NICU and go to a regular hospital room in three days, and I went home from there in two days.

Allison, age 6

“We hope all kids with sick hearts can be as lucky as Allison to have their hearts repaired and live fulfilling lives.”

We had no idea Allison had a heart condition when she was born. Luckily our delivery nurse noticed the blueness of her skin within the first hour of her life.

“My name is Nate. When I was 3 days old, my doctor heard a murmur in my heart and my parents took me to the emergency room.”

I wish that other kids with heart problems can have their hearts fixed, and that someday no one is born with a congenital heart defect.
